I-225 and South Parker Road — Aurora’s highest-crash location, according to Aurora police. In 2026 the Aurora Police Department’s Special Operations Bureau analyzed two years of crash data and found that the I-225 / South Parker Road interchange near Cherry Creek Reservoir averaged more crashes than anywhere else in the city. Officers recorded 14 crashes there between April 5 and May 15, 2026 alone. After a targeted enforcement and warning-sign campaign, that number dropped to two over the following six weeks — an 86% reduction that shows how much of the danger at this interchange comes from speed and driver behavior.

Interstate 225 — I-225 runs the length of Aurora from I-70 to the Denver Tech Center, past the Anschutz Medical Campus, Town Center at Aurora, and the Parker Road interchange. Short merge lanes, heavy commuter volume, and RTD’s R Line light rail running alongside the corridor make rear-end, sideswipe, and chain-reaction collisions common.

Motor vehicle accidents: 3 years from the date of the crash to file a lawsuit (C.R.S. § 13-80-101).
Wrongful death: 2 years from the date of death (C.R.S. § 13-21-204).

Colorado follows a modified comparative negligence rule (C.R.S. § 13-21-111). You can recover compensation as long as you are less than 50% at fault, and your damages are reduced by your percentage of responsibility.
