Lakewood Personal Injury Lawyers Who Try Cases in Jefferson County
Over $550 Million Won for Injury Victims. True Trial Lawyers, Proven Results.
Lakewood is Jefferson County’s largest city and the fifth-largest in Colorado, with about 157,000 people living between Sheridan Boulevard and the foothills. Its roads carry far more than its own residents: Wadsworth, Colfax, Kipling, and the 6th Avenue freeway funnel commuters between Denver, Golden, and the mountains every day. Sixteen people died on Lakewood’s streets in 2025, and Jefferson County as a whole lost 47.
If you were hurt in Lakewood — in a car, on a motorcycle, on a bike, on foot, at a store, or on the job — Jordan Law brings more than $550 million in recoveries and 20 years of Colorado trial experience to your case. You pay nothing unless we win.

Do You Have a Case? Two Questions
Sarah Freedman answers this question for injured people every week, and she keeps it simple:
“There’s really just two questions you have to answer. The first is, were you injured? Injuries can come in all shapes and sizes — they can be physical, they can be emotional. And the second is, who is at fault for your injuries? Did somebody else cause your injuries? If you were injured, and somebody else caused those injuries, you have a personal injury case.”
— Sarah Freedman, Attorney, Jordan Law
From there we look at the details: how clear fault is, what insurance is available, how serious the injuries are, and what the other side is likely to argue. If we can help, we’ll tell you how. If we can’t, we’ll tell you that honestly and refer you to someone who can.

Where People Get Hurt in Lakewood
Wadsworth Boulevard (State Highway 121) — Lakewood’s busiest north-south corridor and, by most measures, its most dangerous. Six lanes of fast traffic, a driveway or intersection every few hundred feet, and heavy pedestrian activity around the shopping centers make Wadsworth the site of a steady stream of rear-end, turning, and pedestrian crashes.
West Colfax Avenue (US 40) — The old highway through the heart of Lakewood, now shared with the W Line light rail. Mid-block crossings, bus stops, motels, and closely spaced businesses make Colfax one of the metro area’s most persistent corridors for pedestrian injuries.
US 6 (the 6th Avenue freeway) — The main route between Lakewood and downtown Denver. High speeds, short merges at Wadsworth, Kipling, Union, and Simms, and a frontage road with a curve so troublesome that two vehicles crashed there within 24 hours in February 2025 — the second one knocking down the warning sign put up after the first.
Kipling Street, Union Boulevard, and Alameda Avenue — Major arterials that carry commuters to the Federal Center, Belmar, and the W Line stations. Left turns across multiple lanes of traffic are the recurring problem.
C-470 and Morrison Road — Lakewood’s western edge, where commuters merge onto C-470 toward the mountains and Bear Creek traffic meets the foothills roads. High speeds and weekend recreational traffic make these crashes severe.
Lakewood recorded 16 traffic deaths in 2025 — a 24% improvement over 2024, but still more than one a month. In late 2025 the city joined Jefferson County’s Vision Zero Safety Action Plan, a federally funded effort analyzing crash records from 2019 through 2024 to find where deaths and serious injuries cluster, with recommendations due in 2026. It also cut residential speed limits to 20 mph. Progress on the numbers is real. It does nothing for the person who was hurt yesterday.
What to Do After an Accident in Lakewood
- Get medical care right away. St. Anthony Hospital on West 2nd Place, next to the Federal Center, is a Level I trauma center — the highest designation in Colorado. Even if you feel fine, get evaluated. Concussions, internal injuries, and spinal injuries often don’t announce themselves at the scene.
- Report it. Inside the city, the Lakewood Police Department investigates; on C-470 it is usually the Colorado State Patrol. Get the report number and the responding officer’s name. If police tell you to file a counter report — common during snowstorm “accident alert” periods — file it with the State of Colorado within 30 days.
- Document everything. Photos of vehicles, the scene, hazards, and your injuries; names and numbers of witnesses; the other party’s insurance information.
- Do not give a recorded statement or sign a medical release for the other side’s insurer. You are not required to, and both are used to reduce what you’re paid.
- Keep every receipt and every appointment. Gaps in treatment are the insurance company’s favorite argument.
- Talk to a lawyer before you talk to an adjuster.
The insurance process is full of terms most people have never heard, and the mistakes are expensive:
“That could be screwing you out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and you don’t even know that you’re doing it while you’re doing it. You retain an attorney and that just takes all of that away. We tell you what all those things mean — collateral source and subrogation and common fund doctrine and ERISA plans as opposed to state-funded plans — and why that matters to you at the end of the day. We explain those things to you, and then you go back to work and you live your life and you see your medical doctors and get better.”

Where Your Case Will Be Filed: Jefferson County Courts
Unlike some Denver suburbs, Lakewood sits entirely within one county. Injury lawsuits arising in Lakewood are filed in the 1st Judicial District at the Jefferson County Courthouse:
Jefferson County Courts
100 Jefferson County Parkway
Golden, CO 80401
Claims up to $25,000 can be filed in county court; larger injury cases go to district court. Our attorneys have tried cases in Jefferson County and know its judges, its jury pool, and its procedures. If a government entity is involved — a City of Lakewood vehicle, an RTD bus or the W Line, or a road maintained by CDOT such as US 6 or Wadsworth — a separate 182-day notice deadline applies (see below).
Deadlines: How Long Do You Have to File an Injury Claim in Colorado?
- Motor vehicle accidents: 3 years from the date of the crash (C.R.S. § 13-80-101).
- Most other injury claims (slip and fall, dog bites, premises liability): 2 years (C.R.S. § 13-80-102).
- Wrongful death: 2 years from the date of death (C.R.S. § 13-21-204).
- Claims against a government entity: written notice within 182 days under the Colorado Governmental Immunity Act (C.R.S. § 24-10-109). This one is easy to miss and unforgiving.
Deadlines are the outer limit, not the plan. Evidence disappears far sooner than that — surveillance video is overwritten, vehicles are repaired, witnesses move — so the practical time to get a lawyer involved is weeks, not years.

Injuries That Get Missed
Not every serious injury looks serious. Jason Jordan has spent 20 years watching one category in particular go undiagnosed:
“The vast majority of brain injury cases that you see from motor vehicle accidents are categorized as mild traumatic brain injury. That person doesn’t look any different than anyone else. A husband or a wife is going to notice the changes far quicker than the injured person would… A lot of these cases go undiagnosed. They wind up getting settled as a soft-tissue chiropractic case when really there is a mild traumatic brain injury component that not only has value and should be compensated for, but has never been treated.”

Part of our job is making sure you see the right doctors — not just for the claim, but so that you get better. That is why we ask clients to tell us everything, including the things that seem small.
“Tell us how you’re feeling. Tell us how medical visits are going. Tell us which doctors you like, which doctors you don’t like. Tell us if something’s bothering you more lately and you feel like it’s maybe not being addressed in treatment.”
— Michael S. Harris, Litigation Attorney, Jordan Law
What Compensation Can a Lakewood Injury Claim Cover?
Economic Damages
Medical bills, future medical care, rehabilitation, lost wages, and lost earning capacity — everything with a receipt or a pay stub, plus what the injury will cost in the years ahead. There is no cap on economic damages in Colorado.
Non-Economic Damages
Pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, and permanent impairment or disfigurement. Effective January 1, 2025, noneconomic damages are capped at approximately $1.5 million, which a court may exceed on clear and convincing evidence.
Punitive Damages
Available when the conduct was reckless — drunk driving, fleeing the scene, a company that knowingly kept a dangerous driver on the road.
What If You Were Partly at Fault?
Colorado’s modified comparative negligence rule (C.R.S. § 13-21-111) lets you recover as long as you were less than 50% at fault, with your damages reduced by your share. Insurers push comparative fault hard because every percentage point they shift onto you is money they keep. It is an argument, not a fact, and it can be tested against the evidence.
Why Choose Jordan Law for a Lakewood Injury Case
We’ve done it at the highest level. Our results include a $131 million verdict, a $45 million settlement — one of the largest motor vehicle accident settlements in Colorado history — and a $42 million verdict. See our results.
We are trial lawyers, and insurers know it. Companies that defend injury claims track which firms actually go to trial. A firm with a verdict record gets a different offer than a firm that always settles — and many of the high-volume firms you see advertising refer their trial work to firms like ours.
We are not a volume firm. We limit our caseload so that you know the attorneys on your case and they know you. Jason Jordan on why that matters at trial:
“Your client’s not going to tell you a specific story because they probably don’t think that you care or that you want to hear that story… whereas that little nugget and that little story is what’s going to humanize this person. That’s why going to a home, going out to dinner, and having those long conversations matters.”
— Jason Jordan, Founding Partner, Jordan Law
No frivolous cases — ever. We are paid only when we win, which is the strongest possible reason to take only cases we believe in.
“If I file a frivolous lawsuit, I only get paid if I recover. So if I don’t recover, I spend all that time working on your case, I’m out the cost, I’m out my time, and I never get paid. So why would I take a case like that? They’re all real cases.”
— Jason Jordan, Founding Partner, Jordan Law
Convenient to Lakewood. Our office at 5445 DTC Parkway in Greenwood Village is about 25 minutes from Lakewood via US 6 and I-25 or C-470. We also meet by phone or video, and we’ll come to you if your injuries keep you from traveling.
No fee unless we win. We work on a contingency fee — no retainer, no hourly billing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my Lakewood injury case take?
Most cases resolve within several months to a year after treatment is complete. Cases that go to trial take longer, though Colorado courts generally set a trial date within about a year of filing. We’ll give you an honest estimate once we understand your injuries and the insurance picture.
Will my case go to trial?
Most cases settle. But insurers make better offers to firms they know will try a case, so we prepare every case as if it will go to a jury.
How much does it cost to hire a personal injury lawyer in Lakewood?
Nothing up front. The consultation is free, and we are paid a percentage of the recovery only if we win or settle your case.
Which court handles a Lakewood injury lawsuit?
The 1st Judicial District at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Golden. Lakewood is entirely within Jefferson County.
What if I was partly at fault?
You can still recover as long as you were less than 50% at fault. Your compensation is reduced by your percentage of fault.
How do I get a copy of my Lakewood police report?
Lakewood Police reports are requested through the department’s online records portal or in person at the Public Safety Center on South Allison Parkway. Reports take a few days to become available and carry a small per-page fee. When you hire us, we obtain it for you.
The other driver’s insurance company already called me. What should I do?
Be polite, decline to give a recorded statement, do not sign anything, and refer them to your attorney. You are not required to speak with them.
Do you handle cases outside Lakewood?
Yes. We represent injured people throughout Jefferson County — Golden, Wheat Ridge, Arvada, Littleton, and the foothills — and across Colorado.
