Denver’s Most Dangerous Roads and Intersections
Denver is a Vision Zero city with a stated goal of eliminating traffic fatalities by 2030. But the crash data tells a different story — specific roads and intersections produce devastating crashes year after year, and the city’s infrastructure hasn’t kept pace with population growth and changing traffic patterns.
I-70 Eastbound and North Peoria Street — Denver’s most dangerous intersection, with 103 crashes in 2024 alone. The interchange’s complex merging patterns, high speeds, and heavy commercial truck traffic create constant collision risks. This intersection has consistently ranked as the most hazardous location in the city.
I-25 Southbound and Yale Avenue — One of Denver’s deadliest locations, recording 3 fatal crashes in 2024. The combination of highway-speed traffic, merging lanes, and high commuter volume makes this interchange particularly lethal.
West Alameda Avenue and South Federal Boulevard — Another fatality hotspot with 3 fatal crashes in 2024. Federal Boulevard has been identified as a priority safety corridor by both the city and CDOT, with Denver City Council approving major safety improvements funded by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Colfax Avenue — America’s longest continuous commercial street runs through Denver and produces approximately 800 crashes annually. Dense retail development, high nighttime crash rates, and frequent pedestrian involvement make Colfax one of the city’s most persistent hazards.
I-25 and Speer Boulevard — A major interchange where rush-hour congestion, left-turn errors, and high traffic volumes produce a consistently high crash rate.
Federal Boulevard — Running north-south through Denver, Federal Boulevard carries heavy traffic through mixed residential and commercial zones. Wide lanes, high speeds, and significant pedestrian activity create a dangerous combination. The city and state have prioritized this corridor for safety improvements.
Peak crash times in Denver are 7-9 AM and 3-6 PM on weekdays, with Tuesdays seeing the highest crash volumes. Summer months — particularly July and August — record the highest accident rates citywide.
It’s very important that you end up with the right attorney — not just the one who advertises the most or has the most clicks online. You want an attorney with significant experience, not only handling this type of work but actually trying cases. That doesn’t mean your case will go to trial, but it matters that your attorney has trial experience. Insurance companies know which firms actually take cases to trial, and that affects how your case is handled. A lot of the high-volume firms — the ones you see everywhere or that show up first online — don’t actually try cases. In fact, many times they end up calling firms like ours to litigate and take their cases to trial.

Denver Personal Injury Practice Areas
Car Accident — Denver recorded 15,701 motor vehicle crashes in 2024. We handle rear-end collisions, T-bone crashes, hit-and-runs, rideshare accidents, and uninsured motorist claims. Our results include a $131 million verdict and a $45 million settlement — one of the largest motor vehicle accident settlements in Colorado history.
Truck Accident — Commercial trucks on I-25, I-70, and I-270 create catastrophic crash risks. We know Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, hours-of-service violations, and how to hold trucking companies accountable. Our truck accident verdicts include $26.6 million, $20 million, and $18.6 million.
Motorcycle Accident — Colorado recorded 165 motorcycle fatalities in 2024. We fight the bias against motorcycle riders and use EDR data, accident reconstruction, and expert testimony to prove what actually happened.
Wrongful Death — When negligence takes a life, surviving family members can pursue a wrongful death claim. Colorado’s wrongful death cap under HB 24-1472 is approximately $2.125 million, with the potential to exceed the cap in cases involving felonious killing.
Catastrophic Injury — Traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, and severe burns require lifetime care. We work with medical and life-care planning experts to calculate the full cost of your future needs.
Brain Injury — Brain injuries are among the most complex cases we handle. Symptoms don’t always show up immediately, and insurance companies use that delay against you. Early documentation and expert medical evaluation are critical.
Pedestrian Accident — Denver recorded 590 pedestrian-involved crashes in 2024, representing nearly 4% of all accidents. These are among the most serious crashes given the vulnerability of people on foot.
Premises Liability — Property owners owe a duty of care to visitors. When dangerous conditions — unsafe stairs, inadequate lighting, defective structures, snow and ice — cause injuries, the property owner may be liable.
Product Liability — Defective vehicles, auto parts, medical devices, and consumer products cause serious injuries. Colorado’s strict liability laws hold manufacturers accountable regardless of negligence.
Drunk Driving Accident — In 2024, 19 Denver traffic fatalities were connected to suspected driver impairment — more than one-third of all fatal accidents. DUI cases may support both compensatory and punitive damages, plus dram shop liability claims against establishments that over-served the impaired driver.
Dog Bite — Colorado’s strict liability dog bite statute (C.R.S. § 13-21-124) holds dog owners liable regardless of whether the dog has a history of aggression.
Ski Accident — Colorado’s Ski Safety Act limits but does not eliminate liability for ski area operators. We handle cases involving lift malfunctions, negligent grooming, inadequate signage, and collisions with other skiers.
Burn Injury — Burn injuries from vehicle fires, chemical exposure, electrical accidents, and defective products often require years of treatment. Our results include multi-million dollar recoveries for burn victims.
Spinal Cord Injury — Spinal cord injuries from car crashes, falls, and workplace accidents can result in partial or complete paralysis. The lifetime cost of a spinal cord injury can exceed $5 million.
Why Denver Injury Victims Choose Jordan Law
Over $550 million recovered. Our results include a $131 million verdict (drunk driver/dram shop liability), a $45 million settlement (one of the largest motor vehicle accident settlements in Colorado history), a $42 million verdict (motorcycle left-turn collision), a $26.6 million verdict (truck brake malfunction), and a $20 million verdict (fuel tanker explosion). These results demonstrate our ability to go against the largest insurance companies and corporate defense teams in the country.
True trial lawyers — not a settlement mill. Insurance companies track which firms actually try cases. When they see Jordan Law, they know we’re prepared to go to verdict. That trial-ready reputation changes how your case is valued from the first demand letter. Many high-volume firms — the ones you see on TV or at the top of Google Ads — don’t try cases at all. In fact, approximately 85% of our litigation caseload comes from attorney referrals, because other firms know they need trial lawyers for their most serious cases.
20+ years of experience in Denver courts. Jason Jordan is a former president of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and a nationally recognized trial attorney. Our litigation team has tried cases across Colorado’s judicial districts and knows how to navigate Denver’s court system.
Personalized attention. We intentionally limit our caseload so every client gets direct attorney involvement. You’ll know the lawyers working on your case, and they’ll know you.
No fee unless we win. Every case is handled on a contingency fee basis. You pay nothing upfront. We invest in investigation, expert analysis, and litigation at our own expense. If we don’t win your case, you owe us nothing. Consultations are always free.

Colorado Personal Injury Law: What Denver Victims Need to Know
Statute of Limitations
Motor vehicle accidents: 3 years from the date of the accident (C.R.S. § 13-80-101).
General personal injury: 2 years from the date of injury (C.R.S. § 13-80-102).
Wrongful death: 2 years from the date of death (C.R.S. § 13-21-204).
Government entity claims (CGIA): 182-day notice requirement before filing suit against the City of Denver, RTD, CDOT, or any other government entity (C.R.S. § 24-10-109). This is especially relevant in Denver given the frequency of crashes involving RTD buses, city-maintained roads, and CDOT highway infrastructure.
Comparative Negligence
Colorado follows a modified comparative negligence rule (C.R.S. § 13-21-111). You can recover compensation as long as you are not 50% or more at fault for the accident. If you’re found partially at fault, your damages are reduced by your percentage of responsibility. Insurance companies aggressively argue comparative negligence to reduce what they pay — having attorneys who can counter these arguments with evidence is critical to maximizing your recovery.
Damage Caps Under HB 24-1472
Effective January 1, 2025, Colorado House Bill 24-1472 restructured noneconomic damage caps. For most personal injury cases, noneconomic damages (pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life) are capped at approximately $1.5 million, with the potential to exceed the cap on clear and convincing evidence. The wrongful death cap is approximately $2.125 million, with an exception for felonious killing. There is no cap on economic damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, and future care costs.
