Mori Family Injured in Serious Crash Near Seattle Due to Suspected Drunk Driver
A Colorado-based Mori family, consisting of five members, were involved in a significant traffic accident near Seattle on Labor Day. The family was on their way to the Seattle airport for a return trip to Colorado when their car was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by a suspected drunk driver.
Yoichi Mori was behind the wheel, with his wife, Tomo, in the front passenger seat. Their three children, Sambi, Inori, and Kishin, were asleep in the back when the accident occurred.
The car that struck the Mori family was moving in the opposite direction on Interstate 5. Following this initial collision, a semi-truck made minor contact with the Mori’s car and subsequently swerved into a wall to minimize further impact.
The entire family sustained injuries. Yoichi and his daughters, Sambi and Inori, experienced comparatively minor injuries, but were still hospitalized. Sambi described her injuries as a “full body whiplash,” causing her significant pain. The youngest family members, Kishin and their mother Tomo, are still under hospital care. Kishin required immediate surgery for internal injuries and has a broken leg and shoulder. Similarly, Tomo underwent surgery after suffering internal and spinal cord injuries.
Outside of this unfortunate event, the Moris are known in Colorado for their leadership roles in the Japanese Hope Mountain Family Church in Englewood. The purpose of their trip was a visit to their sister church in Edmonds, Washington. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by a church community member to assist the family with the arising medical bills and other related expenses.
Despite the trauma, the Mori family remains steadfast in their faith and their commitment to forgiveness. Inori shared, “The first thing that any one of our family would tell [the driver] is that we hope she gets better… because we’re Christians and we believe God saved us.”
